Winter Camps Bring Chills and Thrills
February’s Snow Camp was a great camp. The Seminole Patrol A2 had 100% attendance. Way to go, guys! A total of 26 scouts and 13 adults were on hand to enjoy the best weather we’ve had on this trip in years. Saturday was a great day for inner tubing with a slight breeze blowing over actual snow on the hill this year. Two scouts skied at Sipapu. David Johnson hauled gear with his truck, which saved a lot of time on tear down. Carl Johnson finished up camp Sunday morning with a good sermon. Scouts tore down camp so fast Sunday that we got back to Amarillo by 3:30 p.m. The Mohawk Patrol B2 had the best patrol flag on the camp.

ALUMNI IN THE NEWS
George Abrahamson (Eagle 1966) is serving on the Centennial Committee for the Amarillo Rotary Club. Keep on rotating. Ted Abrahamson was featured recently in an Amarillo Globe News article highlighting Ted’s receiving his 65-year Scouting pin. We’re looking forward to reading the article about that 70-year pin, Ted!
If you know of a scout who is doing something outside his regular Troop 80 activities, please let us know and we will run a story on him.

January’s Coetas Creek Camp was a success. The hike in went off without a hitch, with better than predicted weather (overnight low of 15 and 29 on Friday) and no one getting lost or run over by trucks. The scouts did an erosion control service project for the ranch. The Troop did an outstanding job of policing up the campsites before the final walk through. Jonathan Gwinn led the campfire. Lots of steaks were eaten on Friday night (hmm, not freeze dried food?) . With 35 scouts and 12 adults, this was the best at tended weekend camp in a long time.

PLUMBING MERIT BADGE:
Over 30 scouts earned the Plumbing Merit Badge in February. Sonny Scott, Johnny Wood and Tom Jones taught welding of copper pipe. It looked like a torch light parade. Stan Fithen had the scouts thread and join pipe. He was glad, since he could later use the threaded pipe (thanks for the labor, boys). Roger Coffey and John Standish taught the boys what a force cup is. Stephen Camouse and Carl Johnson taught how to clean a "P" trap under the sink. We now have the world's cleanest "P" trap. David Johnson and Stephen Tillery taught how to plan a water line layout for a house. Finally, Walter Wolfram explained city health code ordinances for plumbing ( that will keep you awake at night ). Paul and Chris sat around giving moral support and collecting money.
