NEW SAFETY POLICY

Jim Thompson has been to national training schools for repelling and climbing. The national Boy Scout office has instituted new safety rile on repelling and for gear. As a result, gear will be rotated on a faster time schedule, increasing safety as well as the cost. Personal gear is still permitted, but must be approved and logged in as to age. Time limit for climbing or repelling harnesses is 4 years from date of purchase. Scouts and adults with their own gear must show proof of purchase to use the gear and must show that the gear is less than 4 years old. This is to protect the scouts and help ensure a safe, but exciting experience. The Troop will also be adopting a written safety policy to comply with national standards and to offer the maximum protection possible for your child’s safety.

*50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY*

In 2005, Troop 80 will have been charted for 50 years. The reunion will be next summer, date not set. Plan to attend the weekend events. For all alumni, please get us information as to all locations of all old scouts and leaders. Send the information to Eric Wolfram, 372-3449, eric-wlf@wtxcoxmail.com. Your help in this regard is appreciated.

KIDS ARE OUR FOCUS

Each Tuesday night Troop 80 adult leaders strive to provide the best possible experience for the scouts in a known and secure environment. For 2004, Troop 80 has averaged over 20 adult leaders in attendance each Tuesday night. If for any reason, your son has a problem, or you have a question about the meeting, please contact the scoutmaster, Eric Wolfram, 372-3449, eric-wlf@wtxcoxmail.com, the Head Assistant Scoutmaster, Garry Wood, 373-0820, or the Committee Chair, James Savage, 378-2325, James.Savage@xcelenergy.com. Your child’s welfare is our chief concern.

PARENT INFORMATION All Troop plans, policies, and information are always available to any parent on request. If you need to know where we camp, how to reach where we camp, program, equipment, or food information, just ask any adult leader and the information will be made available. The Troop is going to provide more detailed information on each camp and the annual program so that any questions about your child’s safety and security can be answered in advance. Any parent who wants to help in getting this information out to other parents, please contact Eric Wolfram, 372-3449 or eric-wlf@wtxcoxmail.com. Your assistance is appreciated.

WANTED: OLD UNIFORMS

The Troop always needs old uniform parts that scouts have outgrown. Same for hiking boots. Any scout who wants, can use uniforms or hiking boots in the K Shed until they outgrow them.

WILDERNESS UPDATE

Date not set, but will be in July 2005. We will be in base camp outside Questa, N.M. at our regular base camp area (used since 1985). Central Kitchen, shower, softball, great program. Scouts must go on 5 camps, attend 25 meetings, and advance a rank to qualify. This is a great camp!

SEPTEMBER CAMP

Great time in the mountains. Lots of hiking. Yes, old Mr. .Johnson made it to the top one more time. No one lost. Everyone made it past Pablo’s Corner. WPW had compassion on the scouts and bought them ice cream at Mc Donald’s.

Great food. Lots of fishing.

NEW EAGLES

William Wood. Kevin Harrison. Josiah Krulik. Jason Stegall. Congratulations to them and their long suffering moms.

OCTOBER CAMP SUCCESS

Camp went great!! Everyone had a great attitude. Pack 80 had two dens visit, with adult leaders. Played softball and ran BB guns. Omelets for breakfast. Tamales and beans (a little crunchy) for dinner. Cleared enough ground to spread patrols out next time. Trees were turning colors. Outstanding weather. We had 14 scouts and 12 adults and little Jones go to Eddie Scott’s Ranch.

MILE SWIM CHALLENGE

Old Mr. Johnson (now years young) threw down the gauntlet and challenged all scouts to a mile swim. Well, he made it. However, the following scouts got there first: Addison Stucky, Brad Beckner, Bryan Sena, William Wood, Josiah Krulik, Austin Fielding, Casey Fithen, Brandon Sena, Chris Johnson, and Adam Jones. Congratulations to all for making it!!
