***** TROOP 80 BSA ******* JUNE 1999 *****
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BIRTHDAYS
Here are the birthdays for the month of June with their dates:
Tyler Tarbet 2, Austin Miller 3, Tony Curtis 3, Bjorn Borg 6, Adam Cox 6, Michael J. Fox 9, David Thursten 11, Adam Ufford 11, Joe Montana 11, Justin Heck 12, Randall Waddell 12, Michael Kiefer Jr. 12, Stewart Waddell 12, Wade Boggs 15, Jimmy Reed 19, Brian Wilson 20, Josiah Krulik 20, Devin Michelotti 24, Mick Fleetwood 24, Paul Kiefer 26, and Paul Henning 28.
PHYSICALS REQUIRED
Last call for those Physicals. Both Wilderness and Advancement camps require that you have a current physical on file with the troop or you won’t be allowed to attend. This is BSA policy. You can find out if you need a new one by contacting Matt Hite. New scouts need to turn one in before the next camp out.
FLOAT TRIP
Time is running out. This years Father/Son float trip will be June 4 thru 6 and the cost is $45.00 dollars. This will include a rafting experience down the Arkansas river in Colorado near the Royal Gorge. We will be camping at the BSA’s Packard High Adventure Base. The water on the river should be great. We call it Father/Son camp, but all scouts are encouraged to attend.
OVER THE PASS
The troop will go over the pass as it’s “Summer Camp” in July of 2000. Time to start planning to attend this once every 6 year event. Banks has agreed to do the menus again, which worked great last time. We will most likely go over Hunchback Pass, at over 12,500 feet and is on the Continental divide. The trip will also include some free time in Durango, Colorado and a ride on the Silverton/Durango train. Don’t miss this camp.
ADVANCEMENT CAMP
You can earn at least 5 merit badges and have fun at the same time by attending Council Advancement Camp. The dates are June 20 - 26 at Camp Don and the cost is still just $110.00 for the whole week.
Want to try something a little different for your summer camp? New, are two High Adventure programs for second year campers. ZCOPE is a program where you actually camp at the COPE course the whole week while training.
For the more adventurous types, there is CRW (Canadian River Wranglers) where you do an old west type cattle round-up on horseback the whole week near Boys Ranch. Space is limited on both programs, so contact Matt Hite for more details
PHONE CALLS
Is your Patrol Leader making their required phone calls each week? The first line of communications in Troop 80 is the phone. It is an easy way to remind your members of swim nights, when a camp out is, and info on special meetings. You can always tell when a patrol is growing and earning those points because the good Patrol Leader is making those phone calls. It’s easy and it’s required..
WILDERNESS CAMP
The dates are July 17 thru 24 and the cost is just $75.00 dollars. To go, you must have attended 50% of the camps and meetings, have earned a rank or 5 merit badges since last year, and new scouts must be at least Tenderfoot. On the way home, we’ll tour “Old Town” Albuquerque and visit the REI store.. Parents are welcome to drive over and eat dinner with us at the Furr’s as long as they don’t try and take their scout away early. Any of our Eagle Scouts are welcome to attend Wilderness camp.

TROOP LOCK-IN
The troop held it’s first ever “Lock-in” and we found out those that could bowl and those that need to take up another sport. A total of 54 scouts and leaders spent 3 hours at the Western Bowl, played ping pong, and watched movies all night long. A few fell a sleep, but the majority played video on the half dozen games and tv’s that circled the room. The best bowler (not counting the 172 by Tslade) was Azriel Krulik with a 137 score.
MEET YOUR LEADERS
This month, we meet Chuck Slaughter. As a scout, he earned his Eagle, 5 Palms and is a Brotherhood member of OA He has taken the adult leader Woodbadge training.
