WILDERNESS CAMP
Have you signed up yet? The cost is still only $65.00 and the food will be great. There will be a base camp, lots of softball, a steak dinner on Thursday evening, and you can earn a bunch of merit badges. You must have a current physical and you must expect a lot of fun. With the way the weather has been, we could have anything from rain, drought, or snow in the mountains this July.
TREE LOT COMETH
Just when you thought the summer might be fun and the pool was wet, we slap you back to reality. Just remember, the tree lot season is just around the corner. Before you know it, Turkey day will be here. It’s in the hundreds and here we are talking about Christmas trees. We’re just no fun. Bah, Hum Bug!!!!
IN MEMORIAM
John Banks, Sr. passed away on June 17, 1998. Aside from having to raise our John, a task to which he was still committed, he ran Lot 1 for two years. He was liked by all the scouts and men who knew him and he will be missed . Condolences are expressed for his family from everyone at Troop 80.
WATER POLO
Daniel Wetzel led the Chickasaw patrol to victory in this years water polo tournament. Good luck next year.
CAMP DON PHOTOS
Did you go to Advancement camp at Don this year? Would you like a copy of the group picture for your memories? A proof is available at the Scout Service Center and you can purchase a copy for yourself for a small fee from Hampton House Photography, 46 Sunset Center, 354-8301.
ADVANCEMENT CAMP
Troop 80 did a real fine job at the Golden Spread Council’s camp at Don in June. Michael Gray was the Scout of the week and he earned a bolo tie. Scout of the Day honors went to Greg Henning on Saturday, Michael Kiefer on Sunday, and Michael Gray on Monday. Michael Kirstine was Scout of the Day for Tuesday, Adam Cox took Wednesday, and Thursday went to Michael Kirstine. Each was awarded a “You make the Difference” coin.
The best patrol at Advancement camp was the “Dode”s” with 43 merit badges. Their patrol leader was Adam Cox and the patrol was manned by Denton Bell, Evan Branum, Grant Snyder, Michael Kiefer, Cole Amburn, and Rhet Amburn. Each scout received a “Scout Oath / Law” coin.
The most merit badges by an individual went to 2 scouts this year. Adam Cox and John Filipowicz both earned 10 merit badges and took home belt buckles. Way to go guys!!!
Richard Kritselis (acting SM) said “I had more fun than a man my age should have. Thanks for letting me go along”. A new record of 195 merit badges shattered the old record. What next Rich?
ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE
“A Scout is Thrifty”. Many scouts and a few dads owe the troop money. Everything from camp outs, yearly dues, and pop corn payments are owed by our members. Please pay up so as not to have your advancement withheld or to not be able to go to a camp.
.PHILMONT CHANGE
May or may not be on hold due to some changes in camp availability. The folks there want to move everybody to a new area with real bathrooms and to keep everybody together. The new location is 1 mile south of the turn off to the Bed & Breakfast on the hill, then west about a 1/4 mile. No running water, so we will have to bring our own. The tent city will still be available to guests. Check with the Scout Service Center for more details. We will keep you updated as we find out all the facts..
AWARD RECEIVED
Pablo Rodriguez was presented with the American Legion award from Hanson Post No. 54 for leadership and scholarship while at Sleepy Hollow Elementary school on May 27th.
POPPE MUSEUM
New to the collection is a vintage official BSA fire by friction kit and two hats with lots of pins. Paul is not the first nor the only one to put pins on his hats.
NEW KITCHEN
The kitchen is under major renovation, or should we say, the kitchen is gone. When redone, it will be available as an instruction room. The sinks will stay and PK was promised that both refrigerators would remain.
AUGUST CAMP
This years Camp Don Aquatics camp is set for August 21 - 23. The camp will include a central kitchen for the meals, rifle, and shotgun shooting. The pool will be the place to be and the canoes will be out for your use. Fishing, swimming, canoeing, and shooting can all be done or you can eat and sleep. It’s up to you and the price will be right.. Can’t beat it!!

Unhappiness is in not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get it.
He had been expelled from college and his business had failed. Now, as he stood on the windswept shores of Lake Michigan one wintry night, the 32-year-old took one last look at the sky above him as he prepared to cast himself into the freeing water.
It was an overpowering moment. He felt a rush of awe as he saw the starry Heavens and the thought seared his mind. You have no right to eliminate yourself. You do not belong to you. R. Buckminster Fuller walked away from the lake and started over.
From that point on, he embarked on a journey that led him into careers as an inventor, engineer, mathematician, architect, poet, and cosmologist. He eventually won dozens of honorary degrees and a Nobel Prize nomination. Fuller wrote two dozen books, circled the globe 57 times, and told millions about his dreams for the future.
The inventor of the geodesic dome, he seldom repeated himself in lectures that sometimes lasted three to four hours on topics that ranged from education to the origin of life. The day Mr. Buckminster Fuller encountered hope was the day he began to find meaning for his life. There is always a reason to hope. Hope gives us the strength to walk away from failure and move on to success.
What profit hath a man of all his labor which he taketh under the sun? Ecclesiastes 1:3
