TROOP 80 *** BSA *** OCTOBER 2005
Volume 22, Number
4-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What a great time for Troop 80 as we celebrated Fifty Years of scouting on September 2 and 3. Food and fellowship were terrific, lots of friendships renewed and stories retold (and embellished a bit . . . Nah. Couldn’t have been! !). Thanks to all who planned and participated. See you in 25 years!
August's First Annual Mystery Camp was a lot of fun. Eight hours at White Water Bay in Oklahoma City sure tired everyone out. We had a great place to stay at Tinker Air Force Base, with all you can eat at breakfast at the dining hall, for a more than reasonable fee.
September’s camp brought us another great weekend in the mountains of New Mexico. A little cooler than Texas and we made it home okay, with only a little delay for a flat tire. Many thanks to Skip and David Johnson for getting us home. Nice driving by Duane too. The scoutmaster still was not allowed to back the bus. Walter, John and Carl stayed down and cooked steaks for the first year scouts. Hard duty.
October's camp was our second year at Scott Ranch, courtesy of Eddie Scott. 22 scouts, 9 men, one little brother, 7 Pack 80 Webelos and a Webelo dad worked hard on Saturday (and some on Sunday) to clear brush and build a campfire ring. The patrols all did outstanding work in setting up their camp-sites. Best campsite was Mohawk Patrol. John Standish headed up the kitchen, aided by Steve Tunnell and Garry Wood. French Toast, fajitas, and omelets were all on the menu this weekend. The weather cooperated and it did not start to rain until we pulled out. Our newest driver, Ricochet Rick, got us down and back up the hill mostly in one piece. Josiah Krulik and Garrett Hall decided to see the big cross on I-40 before coming to camp. Looking forward to next year already.
SCOUTS IN THE NEWS
Congrats to Troop 80’s newest Eagle Scout! Matt Scott has (finally) crossed the finish line and earned his Eagle Rank. Congrats to Matt, and condolences to his long suffering parents.
ALUMNI IN THE NEWS
There is no telling where you will end up after training with Troop 80. Chris Worthen (Eagle 1987) recently took home the silver at the Ironman Competition. Way to go, Chris!
Another Eagle Scout who is spending a fair amount of time keeping in shape is Brandon Wolfram (Eagle 1995). Brandon is playing hoops professionally in Gijon, Spain, where he leads his team in both points and rebounds.
Troop 80 Friends ~
Many thanks for your calls, visits and get well plant during Ben’s accident recovery. We are looking forward to Ben’s return to the airspace soon — he’s healing quickly — as young people do — Thanks for your concern and prayers.
