VENTURE NEWS

Jim Thompson was recently recognized by the council and presented the Venturing Leadership Award for 2001.  !!!CONGRATULATIONS JIM!!!

**Photo CD 2001. The annual photo CD for last year is now available. Over 2000 photos. Viewing software included. Cost is $14.95. Includes all camps, Canada canoe trip, courts of honor, Christmas banquets and tree lot. Canoe Trip CD is $9.95.

Court of Honor on February 12 was well attended. Congratulations to Azriel Krulik and Ben Steed for achieving the highest honor in Boy Scouts by earning their Eagle.

JANUARY CAMP

Carl Johnson did not trust the bus service and brought his own truck to drive home with. Henry Sena and Z get a “Hitey” this year. Best Hat: SF. Best Patrol campsite: Aztecs B2. That is a new boy patrol. We had 32 scouts and 32 adults on this camp. I hope that we had enough men to handle the situation.

TREE SALES CHAMPIONS

In a close finish, Jonathan Standish wins the 2001 sales contest, followed by Christian Enevoldsen, and Shelby Amos. Jonathan wins a free Advancement Camp, Christian wins a free Wilderness Camp, and Shelby wins a pair of insulated camp booties. Best patrol was Blackfeet B3, who wins a pizza party. Congratulations to these scouts for their hard work!!

TIGGER THE TIGER. Dani Fielding (Austin’s Mother) brought by a 9 week old tiger for everyone to see. It was still cute and cuddly, but not for long. It jumped CC and SA, which was no big surprise. If you are interested in helping with service hours by working with exotic animals, you can contact Mrs. Fielding at 371-0011, or www.amarillowildlife.com. These service hours will count for Second Class, Star or Life ranks and will help the community.

PARENT SUPPORT GROUP

Contact Annette Walker if interested in helping, including merit badge counselor, running popcorn sales, tree lot scheduling, etc. We need help in lots of areas but not necessarily very time consuming. 354-9593(h). E-mail: annette.walker@amaisd.org.

Merit Badge Counselors

New list of counselors has been produced by the Troop. Available in Advancement Office. If you want to be a counselor (mom or dad), you can sign up on a Tuesday night. There are 119 merit badges and we need help on most of them. If you want to teach a merit badge, contact Eric Wolfram.

CUB PACK COMMISSIONERS

We need help with parents being a unit commissioner for cub pack units. Helps packs and helps the Troop. Check with James Spencer if interested.

POPCORN SALE

We need much help in running spring popcorn sales. Please contact Annette Walker or Eric Wolfram if interested in helping. Scouts keep entire commission (36%) to help pay for camps or equipment.

DUES ARE DUE

Dues will go up to $30 this year, due to increases in recharter fees and insurance. This is the first increase in several years and Troop 80 still has among the lowest dues in town. The “starter kit” for new scouts is still $25.00. Dues should be paid before the end of February.

New Eagle Procedure. National BSA is enforcing Eagle Application procedures. There is a new Life to Eagle booklet and projects must be done strictly in accordance with local and national guidelines. Louie Lincoln has agreed to oversee the Life to Eagle process. Please direct all questions regarding the Eagle application process and Eagle projects to him. Other members of the Advancement Committee ( Doug Walker and Jim Altsman) will not know these answers. Make sure you obtain a current Life to Eagle package (form has changed). You may download the form from the BSA website, or from www.usscouts.org.
