Camp Summary

Attendance:

40% - Poor

50% - Average (based on historical numbers)

65% - Excellent

Overall Attendance - 58.10% (43 Scouts Attended Tuesday Night out of 74 on Active Roster)

Overall Attendance - 47.50% (19 Adults Attended Tuesday Night out of 40 on Active Roster)

Cobras - (4 patrol members attended out of 5) = 80%

Kiowa - (5 patrol members attended out of 8) = 62.5%

Cherokee - (7 patrol members attended out of 9) = 77.78%

Wolverines - (6 patrol members attended out of 10) = 60%

Scorpions - (6 patrol members attended out of 9) = 66.67%

Seminoles - (6 patrol members attended out of 10) = 60%

Blackfeet - (5 patrol members attended out of 8) = 67.5%

Greenbar - (5 senior officers attended out of 7) = 57.14%

We had 3 Webelos from Pack 80 join as well

Advancement:

We had some Scouts earn the Fishing Merit Badge and some earn the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge.

Canoe Crew Competitions: The competition consisted (as a crew) of unloading your canoes off the rack, properly carry them with out dragging, making a proper entry with 3 points of touch, canoeing out to a buoy, going around that buoy, switching the front person in the canoe with the back person in the canoe without swamping, then canoe to another buoy, going around that buoy, canoe to the dock and park your canoe next to the dock without hitting it, unload all crew members, get back into the canoe, paddle to shore, properly exiting the canoe with 3 points of touch, carry the canoe and put back on the racks, put up all gear, and then take buddy tags off. You were time penalized for errors.

The following are the times that each individual crew completed the above task in:

1^st Place – Tillery’s Crew 8 minutes and 9 seconds

2^nd Place - The Hobbits 9 minutes and 23 seconds

3^rd Place - Standish’s Crew 9 minutes and 30 seconds

4^th Place - Fithen’s Crew 11 minutes and 9 seconds

5^th Place - Sena’s Crew 13 minutes and 26 seconds

6^th Place - Robles’ Crew 13 minutes and 46 seconds

7^th Place - Rowland’s Crew 13 minutes and 52 seconds

8^th Place - Walker’s Crew 16 minutes and 2 seconds

The funny thing is that last Tuesday, Doug Walker said his crew is “the fastest and best crew”. Sorry Doug, you came in dead last. Other crew’s could have done better if their crew leaders were there to help…..right Lawerence?

Campsite Inspections: (Possible 100 points)

1^st Place - Kiowa Score: 71

2^nd Place - Cherokee Score: 64

3^rd Place - Seminoles Score: 60

4^th Place - Cobras Score: 55

5^th Place - Wolverines Score: 45

6^th Place - Scorpions Score: 43

7^th Place - Blackfeet Score: 28

Camp Summary:

The weather was great. It got a little warm during the day and cool at night. This was the first camp this year where the weather was enjoyable. As you can see we had great attendance for this camp despite the band conflicts. We ran into vehicle problems and then managed to get in an hour late Sunday night. The Troop truck will have to be towed in and worked on. Special thanks to Jim Laughlin for hauling the canoes back to Amarillo with his suburban. We had great food cooked by Stan Fithen and Jared Knight. Also, I want to say thanks to Peter Friend who was very helpful and made things easier with the use of his truck. We had about 25 people from Pack 24 (Amarillo Pack) along with Pack 80 join us for our campfire. It was a fun and energetic campfire as you can imagine with about 90-95 people there in attendance. Our Aquatics area was ran by John Standish and his Lifeguards. Special thanks to those guys for their efforts at the waterfront. The water was cold but everyone still had a great time. We did lots of canoeing and everyone is looking really good in their canoeing skills. There is a huge improvement in skills since this time last year. We had some scouts do fishing and rifle shooting on their little free time they had. There wasn’t much time to work on campsites for inspections as you can tell by from the scores. Many Scouts also earned more requirements towards their Canoeing Merit Badge. This was a great camp and many things were accomplished such as getting to work with your crews for the first time that will be going to Canada. We learned each other’s strengths and weaknesses. This overall was probably the best camp of the year so far. See you Tuesday night.
